In a surprising announcement, the only developer behind it Stardew Valley, Eric Barone, revealed his next game. Titled Haunted Chocolatier, the game puts players in the shoes of a chocolatier who has just moved to a new city.
It appears to be the case with almost every metric Haunted Chocolatier shares a lot of DNA Stardew Valley. The game features a very similar pixel art style to the farming simulator, right down to the individual character portraits that appear when players talk to NPCs. Likewise, the game’s user interface has the same style as Stardew Valley.
Gameplay appears to be the only area where Barone – also known by the studio name ConcernedApe – differs between the two games. Instead of growing plants or looking after animals, players will keep their little chocolate business afloat. To do this, the players travel through a portal in their house into a forest, where they can collect resources for making chocolate and fight enemies at the same time. Haunted Chocolatier‘s struggle is by no means complex and again shares much of its DNA Stardew Valley.
Once they have made their chocolate, players can decorate their shop with countertops, lamps, and other décor, and dispose of their wares on the town’s residents. However, it will not be players who display their wares, but rather little ghosts, and this is where the “ghostly” nature of the game title comes into play. The ghosts do not act maliciously, but instead help the players run their shop.
Today’s trailer for Haunted Chocolatier just announced that the game is in development. A release date and platforms for the game were not disclosed.
