Shadow Warrior 3 will be available now at launch on PS
On February 22, 2022, Bartek Sawicki, Principal Producer of Flying Wild Hog, confirmed in a PlayStation Blog post that Shadow Warrior 3 would be available on the PS Now subscription service at launch on March 1st, which came as a surprise to pretty much everyone.
The katanas are sharpened and the dragon hunt can begin! I’m Bartek, the Lead Producer of Shadow Warrior 3, and our team here at Flying Wild Hog is excited to give you all a fresh look at our game before it releases on March 1st. Stay tuned though, as this post will get a few updates throughout the day, with more videos to dig a little deeper into the game. Oh, and one more thing – Shadow Warrior 3 will be a PlayStation Now title at launch.
This makes Shadow Warrior 3 the first brand new game to be released on launch day on PlayStation Now. And while this is great news for both Shadow Warrior and PS Now users, it also opens the door to other possibilities for the PS Now subscription service.
Sony is preparing to fight Microsoft
In case you didn’t know, Microsoft has taken steps to make its Xbox Game Pass subscription service the best ever.
In early 2022, Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard to increase the quality and quantity of games available on Xbox Game Pass. In addition, Microsoft has also acquired other well-known companies such as Bethesda and even tried to buy Discord.
While other companies have game libraries, Microsoft now has a game developer library with a ton of popular games metaphorically at hand.
Enter Shadow Warrior 3. This popular first-person shooter game could be Sony’s answer to Microsoft. Adding new popular games could attract more users to try PS Now as it would offer better value for money.
What’s cool for PlayStation users is that if Shadow Warrior does well on PS Now, there may be more new, high-profile games coming to the platform. That makes it an incredible deal for gamers on a budget. Of course, there’s no way of knowing if this is Sony’s actual plan, so we’ll have to wait and see.
What about Sony Spartacus?
Even if it’s just a rumor, Sony might have another ace up its sleeve for now. Sony is said to be working on a new subscription platform codenamed Spartacus.
This subscription service will reportedly offer a large games library with many games from PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and PS5 consoles and would be Sony’s real answer to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass.
While Sony hasn’t really confirmed anything yet, this subscription could launch in Spring 2022. If that’s true, it’s possible Sony will test the waters by releasing brand new games on launch day with PS Now.
The future looks bright for PlayStation gamers
Whether this is pure speculation or the real deal remains to be seen. However, one thing is certain; Shadow Warrior fans using PlayStation Now will be happier than ever.
And if you’re still wondering whether you should choose PlayStation Now or Xbox Game Pass, it’s a good time to compare both platforms to see which one works best for you.
