In 2022, an exciting, long-awaited film was released, combining nostalgia and amazing action sequences with dogfights. No, we don’t talk about it Top Gun: Maverick – we are talking about dedicationJD Dillard’s gripping film about the true exploits of Jesse Brown, the first African American to complete the US Navy’s basic flight training program.
Unfortunately different loner, dedication did not go down well at the box office. The audience still saw Black Panther: Wakanda Forever or saved their money for Avatar: The Way of Water. Too bad, because the film is a good old-fashioned crowd pleaser that Hollywood just doesn’t make much of anymore. Dillard masterfully recreates the dogfights Brown took part in, and is just as adept at capturing the unique bond that exists between Brown and his fellow pilots. Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell stand out as Brown and his best friend Tom Hudner, both of whom face impossible odds while flying into enemy territory.
The film runs for 138 minutes and is rated PG-13.
