There are quite a number of home security cameras on the market today and many of them offer users a subscription program where users get access to more features like saved recordings and more for additional fees paid each month. This would be in addition to the price you paid to buy the camera in the first place.
However, Wyze has an interesting proposition they announced on their forums where users can actually choose how much they want to pay, even if it’s $0. The company says this started as an experiment last year, finding that most users were fairly honest and paid for the feature in full, despite having the option to pay less or nothing at all.
So much so that the company decided to open up this feature to all of its users. “Introducing Cam Plus Lite, bringing Wyze person detection and 12-second cloud recording to all users at any price you want to pay, including $0. We are also adding several requested features for local recording to microSD cards, including removing the 32GB card size limit and adding fast forward and rewind buttons.”
This means that if you own a Wyze camera and want to access the advanced features that were previously locked behind a paywall, you’re welcome to subscribe for any price you think is fair. It’s an interesting experiment, but we’re wondering if it will be profitable for the company over the long term.
However, in the meantime, if you want to take advantage of this offer, now is a good time to do so.
