Every year some social media trends and games get out of hand, and as of now in 2022 it looks like the game ‘Wordle’ is it. Wordle is wrecking productivity everywhere, giving players a new word to guess every day, but you only have six tries to get it right. So here is what you need to know and how to play Wordle.
The game was created by Josh Wardle in 2013 as a fun little side project he brought back to life for entertainment during the pandemic. Now we’re seeing posts all over social media talk about and waiting for the next wordle. If friends and family post pictures with green, yellow, black, or gray squares, it’s because they’re playing Wordle.
Where can you play Wordle?
If you want to take part in the gimmicks, you can play Wordle here. Once you click, learn how to play, and guess today’s word, you are done. Then your web browser will remember the spot and tomorrow will offer a new word for you to guess.
Getting started is so easy as there is no mobile app to download or anything like that. Instead, visit the website, guess the five letter word, and share your results on social media. Be careful though, you don’t want to reveal the answer – just say how many tries it took you to guess correctly.
How do you play Wordle?

Guess the word in six tries or less and it is that simple. The first time you visit Wordle website you will be given a series of instructions on how to play.
To start, guess the wordle in six tries or fewer. After each guessing, the tiles on your screen will change color to let you know if you are nearby or not. For example, yellow is warm and green is hot.
- green Tiles mean the guessed letter is in the word and in the right place.
- yellow Tiles confirm that the letter is in the word, but in a different square.
- and Gray Tiles mean the letter doesn’t belong anywhere in the word.
Take your time, think about it, and guess the word before you run out of guesses. The correctly guessed green letter stays in place and gives you a Jeopardy-like experience. It sounds easy, but don’t be too confident just yet.
Every day you have to guess a new five letter word that usually comes up around midnight. Much luck!
How long will Wordle last?
If you start getting addicted to Wordle like us, don’t worry the game will run out of words anytime soon. According to the New York Times, the game’s creator says about 2,500 words in queue, which means we have a few more years to play.
Everything is also random, so that even Wardle does not know which word will appear tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. It looks like the creator has no plans to make a mobile app version, nor will they charge any money for the game. Instead, it’s just fun for everyone. And we could all use a bit of that these days.
Try Wordle today and don’t forget to share your results on social media.
