While streaming services like YouTube Music are great at providing random music to explore, some users want more control. And while YouTube Music already had many playlist queue customization options, now you can create a personalized radio station.
Previously, when users picked a random song in the app, a radio station was instantly created around it, which wasn’t ideal, and we didn’t have much control over it either. Now things are vastly improved.
Google has been testing this new feature since last year and loudly TechCrunch, it’s finally official and rolling out to more users. YouTube Music’s “Create Radio” option should appear in the app so users can choose which artists they want, how much variety the station plays, and even the mood they’re looking for.
According to YouTube Music, this feature allows users to “create a radio station from scratch, combining key music building blocks like artists and common music descriptions to specify whether the user wants songs to be rediscovered or chilled songs.”
As you can see from our screenshots above, creating an awesome radio station is relatively easy. In the home feed, scroll down until you find “Create Radio Stations” or in my case “Your Music Tuner” and then get started. Select as many artists and bands as you like, up to 30, then click Next. On the following page, you can adjust artist frequency and mix, and filter your personal radio station with new releases, upbeat music, or other options.
Keep in mind that the more artists you add, the more varied the channel becomes, which can be good or bad. The first few artists you select are also the radio station name, which isn’t ideal.
That means now you have a personalized radio station that is readily available, constantly updated and improved, and you can quickly tap “Add to Library” to save it to your app for future use. Sign up for YouTube Music and give it a try today.
